Cody - New Pantomime Blocking

Hey Victor! I've started to put in some blocking for my new shot, as well as trying out some new staging. I'm hoping to include the confusion at first that you were talking about, where he doesn't really remember what record it is until it starts playing. Do you think this is a good way to show that?

Also, do you think there's too much business for a subtle shot?

As always, thank you for the advice! Looking forward to your feedback.

  1. Hi Cody, I like the newer, more simplified staging. I feel like 2.35 may be a bit too wide an aspect ratio for a scene this intimate. Maybe use a longer lens too, so his hands don't get so big in the foreground. I think you could stack the visual elements a bit more and get the perspective lines of the Victrola to point at the man. See sketch. As for the business, I feel like the examining of the record sleeve is too big and taking too much time. See if you can overlap the action of looking at the sleeve and placing the needle a bit more. I want to get to the music sooner and have longer for his reactions to play out.
    Hope this helps!

  2. Hey Cody! this is a very cool idea! I was going to make the same comment as Victor. The point (and the more interesting part) of this shot, in my opinion, is his reaction for the music. I think the beginning could be simpler so you can get to the point sooner. another thing is: does he knows that that music is going to play or is it a surprise for him? because to me, it is reading as if he doesn't know who the singer is by the way he is looking to the "disc case". if that disc is special to him and bring him memories, maybe he could e just taking the dust off of it, or gently touching it....

    i don't know... just random thoughts =)

looking forward to see more of it! it is going to be great!
