Cody's Gear Change Blocking

Hey everyone!

http://syncsketch.com/playground/6a295cbf45a949899aefa8037e20db42#45633

I blocked out my idea for this week's gear change assignment, and I'm debating with what to do for the ending. Right now, I have a sort of slapstick punch at the end, but I'm not a big fan of putting a button on the end of a shot for no reason. I'm considering taking it out and just ending with the subtle change in the guy's face. That way, it won't be as rushed, and will have a bit more of a serious tone. What do you guys think? Is it worth keeping in?

Thanks!

  1. Hey Cody, nice stuff man!

I think either way the shot will work, but I personally like it more without the punch at the end. I felt way more sympathetic for him just off of the expression change alone; as opposed to when the punch came. I feel like that moment will have more impact too if you gave it the frames from the punch.

But if you decide to keep the punch then I would have him fall down on the ground or step back to catch his weight from getting hit or something like that. Mainly because of how far back he bends after the hit, I don't think he would physically be able to stop the momentum from the hit in that straight bent back pose. You could also put another gag in if he falls to the floor, like having his legs kick up off the bottom of the screen when he hits the floor ( I hope that made sense). One last thing is I might keep one more frame when her fist hits his face, I feel like it might add more impact to the punch.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Hi Cody,
The punch is funny, but I agree with Rami that the shot doesn't really need it. I find the subtle change in his face more interesting. I would like you to clarify what his first expression is after the kiss; he looks a little confused or dazed. Good stuff! Bonus points for snow fx.
